Over 100 Years of Continuous Innovation

Mathew Andis, a toolmaker, Immigrated from Europe in the early 1900s, settling in Racine Wisconsin. With dies obtained from a prior hand held clipper company, Mathew soon developed a self-contained, electric-powered clipper that was less bulky using an electromagnetic motor. By 1922 the Andis Clipper Company was born. Now, four generations later, it has remained a leader in the barber, stylist and pet grooming industry.

Continually Adapting

By the 1970s, Andis expanded its electronic clipper products to include models specifically developed for and focusing on the pet and livestock industry. Innovations center around heavy-duty, lightweight models with adjustable blades that are less noisy to reduce stress for the animal during the grooming process.

Used for Generations

Andis is personal. "My grandfather immigrated during WWI settling in Detroit as a career barber. My mother followed in his footsteps and became a hair stylist, even working in Hollywood in the late 1950s.
